A Daily Dose of Willy’s ACV

Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) is a natural remedy that has been used for thousands of years to help cure multiple health issues. As well as this, ACV is popular for use in recipes, from sweet to savoury, from breakfast to lunch. Apple cider vinegar isn’t only great as an addition to recipes, it is also the ultimate health elixir.  ACV is effective in weight loss, stabilising blood pressure, lowering cholesterol, improving symptoms of arthritis and so much more.  ACV may be great for helping many health issues but a main reason many people have a daily dose of ACV is due to its acclaimed benefits for weight loss.  Let’s find out how.

Victoria Beckham is a big advocate for ACV and its health benefits.  Back in 2018 she posted on Instagram encouraging her followers to take two tablespoons on an empty stomach.  Katy Perry, Scarlett Johnansson and Jennifer Aniston are also fans of the drink mainly due to its benefits for the skin and weight loss claims.

Aiding weight loss

ACV is a natural and cost-effective way to prevent fat accumulation without any side effects.  Research shows that ACV is effective in aiding weight loss in several ways:

  • Suppressing appetite: it has been suggested that the acetate in ACV may suppress centres in the brain that control appetite and makes you feel fuller, therefore likely reducing overeating.
  • Decreasing insulin levels: studies have found that acetic acid reduced the ratio of insulin to glucagon.  This has been linked to increased fat burning.
  • Improving metabolism: acetic acid has been linked to an increase in the enzyme AMPK.  This enzyme can boost fat burning and decrease fat and sugar production in the liver.
  • Lowering blood sugar levels: acetic acid can improve the ability of the liver and muscles to take up sugar from the blood.  In addition to this, it is believed to block the enzymes that help to digest starch. This means that blood sugar levels stay more stable and blood sugar spikes are prevented.
  • Burning fat: studies have found a link between acetic acid intake and an increase in the genes responsible for fat burning, consequently leading to a reduction in body fat build-up.

Curbing sugar cravings

Many people find that Apple Cider Vinegar is great for curbing sugar cravings which has an indirect link to weight loss.  Research shows that ACV may also help regulate blood sugar and insulin levels, which can lead to a reduction in sugar cravings.  This helps to prevent you reaching for those unhealthy, sugary snacks and maybe instead opting for a healthier and more nutritious snacks.

HOW TO GET YOUR DAILY DOSE OF ACV

It is recommended to build a daily dose of ACV into your routine to reap all the benefits.  Here are some ideas of how to do this:

  1. Dilute in water: the easiest way to get your daily dose of ACV is simply by diluting in water.  Just add 25ml of ACV to a glass and top up with 250ml water.  To sweeten the solution, add a dash of honey or try using the Willy’s Honey & Turmeric ACV.
  2. Dressing: a common use of ACV is salad dressing.  Enhance your meal by using ACV in a dressing or dip.  There are many recipes you can try – like our Homemade Tahini and ACV Dressing.  Most dressings can be stored for months and are incredibly quick and easy to make.
  3. Drink with lemon: mixing ACV with lemon is an effective weight loss remedy.  Research also shows that the combination of ACV and lemon can help to remove toxins from the body.  Simply mix 25ml ACV with warm water and a squeeze of lemon juice to reap the benefits.
  4. Over fruit and vegetables: enhance the taste of fruit and vegetables by drizzling over some ACV.  A great way to get your daily dose, as well as contributing to your ‘5-a-day’.  The perfect way to get more vitamins and minerals in your system.
  5. Salt swap: swap salt for ACV, a healthier alternative that will help to stabilise blood pressure levels.
  6. In recipes: ACV can be used in a vast array of recipes, from savoury to sweet, from breakfast to dinner.  See our recipes page for some ideas of how to incorporate ACV into your cooking and baking.
