Is Willy’s ACV Keto friendly?

What is the keto diet?

The ketogenic diet works by sending the body into a state of ‘ketosis’ through using a strict low-carb diet. Low-carb diets also include the Atkins and Dukan diet.

Going through a state of ketosis is when the body burns fat instead of carbs as its primary source of fuel. Usually, the body uses glucose from carbohydrates for energy but due to the lack of carb intake in the keto diet, the body is unable to do this. When the body doesn’t get carbohydrates, the liver breaks any fat to produce energy. The energy made are molecules called ‘ketones’.

There are a few benefits of being on the keto diet, other than weight loss. This particular diet was initially developed to help treat epilepsy in children. Studies have proven that those who followed a ketogenic diet had a reduced frequency of seizures. This diet may also improve insulin sensitivity.

What foods can you eat when on the keto diet?

Generally, the foods that you’re allowed consists of:

– High fat meats

– High fat dairy

– Low carb vegetables

– Fish

– Nuts

As this diet is a low-carb diet, this means that you must be cutting out pasta, rice, bread etc. You must also avoid legumes, most fruits, potatoes and root vegetables.

Due to the fact that you’re cutting out quite a lot of dietary fibre, you may find this negatively impacting your gut health. It’s recommended that you do try to incorporate plenty of gut-friendly foods such as, leafy greens, certain fats like butter and also a range of fermented products e.g. fermented vegetables and getting your daily dose of Willy’s apple cider vinegar.
