Top tips for healthier holiday drinking

The festive season is upon us!  It’s a time to eat, drink and be merry, but often we tend to overdo it.

Whilst it’s important to have fun and enjoy the festivities, it’s also important to be mindful of how your health is being impacted.

Alcohol can be detrimental for our health and wellbeing but luckily I’ve put a few tips and tricks together for you to help you manage your alcohol intake this season.

  1. Sip slowly – Take time and mindfully drink your beverage.  This will mean that you will be reaching for less drinks throughout the course of the night.
  2. Avoid unhealthy mixers – some cocktails and mixers are packed full of sugar.  I suggest opting for lower calorie cocktails and mixers such as soda or tonic.
  3. Alternate between drinking alcohol and water – a big problem with drinking is that it can cause severe dehydration.  A way to help this issue is by alternating between a glass of alcohol and a glass of water.  This will also help the hangover!
  4. Pour yourself half as much – this will mean that you will reduce your alcohol intake that evening.
  5. Choose the healthier options – know how much alcohol you can handle and stick to this.  Some slightly healthier alcohol options include:

  • Red or white wine
  • Light beer
  • Champagne
  • Vodka, whiskey, rum or gin

6. Opt for a delicious ACV mocktail instead – we have lots of delicious ACV mocktail recipes on our website here.
