ACV for healthy hair

Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) is a diverse and versatile product that has many MANY uses, including being an effective hair rinse – who’d of known?!

The lovely Claire from @thislittlehouse did a bit of an experiment over lockdown and found out that ACV works as a great replacement (and upgrade) for shampoo and conditioner.  Claire found that by replacing her normal hair washing method with her ACV hair rinse she was able to wash her hair less frequently AND even more excitingly had better results!  What a dream!

What you need:

  • A comb or hairbrush
  • Two tablespoons of ACV
  • One tablespoon of Bicarbonate of Soda
  • 500ml warm water

What you do:

Step 1 – ‘shampoo’:

  • Wet your hair
  • Add one tbsp of Bicarbonate of Soda into 250ml of warm water and mix well until it turns cloudy
  • Apply to hairline and scalp (making sure that all hair is covered)
  • Wash out thoroughly

Note: it won’t lather like normal shampoo and it can be quite drying on the scalp so make sure you don’t leave it on for too long!

Step 2 – ‘condition’:

  • Add 2 tbsp of ACV [link to our original acv] to 250ml of warm water
  • Apply liberally all over the roots and lengths of your hair
  • Leave on for 2-3 mins
  • Wash out thoroughly

Tip: if you live in an area with Hard Water (you can find out if you do by inputting your postcode here) then it’s recommended to boil and cool your water first to eliminate certain chemicals present.

Step 3:

  • Towel dry and comb the hair
  • Style as usual!

The results:

  • ★Restored balance
  • ★Added hydration
  • ★Natural shine
  • ★No grease
  • ★Less frequent washing required – Claire now washes her hair once every 4 days instead of daily!
