What are anti-oxidants?

Our ACV doesn’t just taste great, it also has amazing health benefits.  One of these being that it’s rich in antioxidants!!  But what are antioxidants?  Why are they good for us?  And how can you get more of them in your diet?

So first off, what are antioxidants and why are they good for us?

It’s easy to get bogged down by all the science but in basic terms, we all contain these things called ‘free radicals’.  These are naturally produced when the body breaks down food, but also due to various lifestyle, stress and environmental factors, such as:

  • Radiation (e.g. from our mobiles)
  • Infections
  • Alcohol
  • Air pollution
  • Cigarette smoke
  • And more…!

We do in fact need some free radicals for our bodies to function optimally.  However, when free radicals outnumber antioxidants they accelerate the natural ageing process of our skin, and can even contribute to various diseases like asthma, cancer and diabetes.

Luckily, our bodies have their own antioxidants to fight free radicals because without this, the free radicals could cause some serious harm to our bodies.  But it can also be a great idea to add in some antioxidants from your diet.

Our ACV contains antioxidants called polyphenols which fight the damaging free radicals in the body.
