What is curcumin?

Turmeric contains something called curcuminoids, which are bioactive compounds. One of the curcuminoid compounds is curcumin. Out of the 2-9% curcuminoids found in turmeric, a whole 75% of the active compounds are that of curcumin.

What are the benefits of curcumin?

Research suggests that curcumin can help with various inflammatory and oxidative conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure and alzheimers. It has also been said to help arthritis, anxiety and may help with exercise- induced inflammation and any muscle soreness.

Curcumin is known to be a strong antioxidant as well as having anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and anti-fungal properties.

Unfortunately, its downfall is that it’s not absorbed well in the body.

How do i improve the absorption of curcumin?

Piperine, a bioactive compound found in black pepper, is what enhances the absorption of curcumin in the body.

Piperine is a great alkaloid and has been shown to help with headaches, relieve you of nausea and help with poor digestion.

Research shows that by combining both compounds together, the absorption is enhanced by up to 2000%!

There are a few theories as to how piperine helps the absorption of curcumin better, such as:

– Piperine makes it easier for curcumin to enter your bloodstream by helping it pass through the intestinal wall.

– Piperine slows the breakdown of curcumin in the liver by increasing its blood levels.
